Step-free access setback for Islington

Bad news for Islington from TfL.

The long-awaited step-free access for Highbury & Islington and Finsbury Park stations has been deferred, without any date being set.
Effectively, it’s now unlikely to happen.

Step-free access is essential for people with mobility problems – and extremely useful for able-bodied travellers with pushchairs or luggage too.

The ideal of step-free access is to have lifts to every platform. But some stations – including Highbury & Islington, and Finsbury Park – don’t even have escalators to platform level. Stairs are unavoidable. So you think these stations would be a priority.

Boris may be fit enough to cycle, rich enough to get a cab. He should remember that many of his fellow Islington residents are not.
