An old neighbour from Barnsbury, Peter Willis, has contacted me with news that the University of Westminster wants to close down the school of ceramics at its Harrow site.
I have a soft sport for Harrow School of Art, because my aunt Mary Patrick, who is an accomplished graphic artist, studied there. Since then it’s become part of the University of Westminster, and along with Central St Martins and Camberwell it offers one of the few Ceramics degree courses in London, but one with an international reputation.
It’s ironic that this year’s graduates have triumphed over a fire at their campus in 2007 which destroyed much of their work. As a result the Harrow campus has brand new ceramics facilities. It seems such a waste to close the course now.
There’s a Facebook group for the Save Harrow Ceramics campaign here.
