Lay down the knives

Yesterday I had the privilege of having tea in the House of Lords with Brooke Dunford, both as guests of Lord (Roger) Roberts of Llandudno.

Roger Roberts has family in Islington, some of his grandchildren are growing up here, so he takes a deep interest in tackling knife crime. And like me, he’s been very impressed by Brooke’s work.

Brooke is an amazing young woman. Still only 16, she organised that very moving march, when hundreds of young people walked through Islington wearing white, in protest against knife crime, in the wake of Ben Kinsella’s murder.

Now, with Lord Roberts’ support, she’s looking at organising another event to encourage young people to a knife-free future.

Brooke told us that she’d like to become an event organiser. She already is!
