Morton Road gardens get some attention

This morning, a team from the Council’s greenspace department were hard at work, weeding paths, trimming borders and generally doing more than the usual weekly tidy up.

And this afternoon a police van arrived, labelled a Safer Neighbourhood Team ‘mobile police office’. The gardens, and our estate, have been the centre of regular bouts of antisocial behaviour, and worse. One of my neighbours was seriously unsettled last week when he overheard some youths outside his flat discussing how they might break in… probably just bravado to their mates or a wind-up – but it all adds to the fear of crime. We have had promises of action by the police before, but not much seen on the ground, so this is a welcome development.

That must have been very frightening to overhear that the mob were to break in. It is about time this government were to sit down and address the issue of vandals etc a little more seriously.
