Ivy league

On Wednesday we spent most of the day gardening. After the wettest summer on record, the garden had moved beyond well-established to well-overgrown. After much pruning and weeding we can now see the wall (and the sagging fence- that will be the next job) and filled eight bags with ivy and other garden waste.

Eight bags, no car, big problem? Thankfully not. Islington collects not only the paper, glass, card & cans from our green box but also the food waste in our brown caddy, every Friday. Plus this week, – and all that garden waste. It’s such a good service that it’s easy to take for granted. What a contrast to when I first lived in Islington: no household recycling, the nearest the (then Labour) council came to a recycling service was a few bottle banks.
