Brighton can rival Islington for diversity….
Burlington Street where I’m staying has two plaques: to Max Miller – and to George Canning. Canning’s name keeps being cited as one of the shortest-lived Prime Ministers (just 119 days) in the context of Gordon Brown calling – and possibly losing – an early General Election.
I’m not quite sure where Miller fits in. Apparently “his skill was such that he could hold an audience in the palm of his hand. He also made films, wrote and sang his own songs”; hard to think of a Cabinet member who matches that.
